Brief description of study

The purpose of this research study is to better understand rosacea and its possible relation to the nervous system.

Detailed description of study

Researchers in the Department of Physical Therapy of Indiana University at IUPUI are seeking healthy men and nonpregnant/non-lactating women between the ages of 18-45 years old to participate in a research study investigating the relationship between rosacea and the sympathetic nervous system.  We are recruiting both persons who have been diagnosed with subtype 1 rosacea and healthy control participants.  Participation involves pharmaceutical agents applied to the skin.  After completing 2 screening visits which will each take about 30 minutes, participants will complete 2 sessions which each last about 3-4.5 hours.  Minor financial compensation is provided for participating in these studies.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: Healthy,Rosacea
  • Age: 18 years - 45 years
  • Gender: All

Inclusion Criteria

Otherwise healthy males and non-pregnant/non-lactating females ages 18-45 years with mild to moderate erythematotelangiectatic rosacea, as well as age-sex matched healthy control subjects. Subjects will be apparently healthy as assessed through a pre-screening phone conversation and health history and physical exam.

Exclusion Criteria

Neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic, muscular, or other dermatological disorders.
Current history of alcohol and/or drug abuse.
Known allergies or hypersensitivities to medications/drugs that are used in the protocol.
Current smoking or regular smoking within the last 2 years.
Medications or supplements which are known to affect neural, cardiovascular, or muscular responses.
