Ventilatory Characteristics of Trained Competitive Swimmers During Rest and Exercise
Brief description of study
The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of partial water immersion and body position on the pulmonary mechanics of trained swimmers. We will examine the differences in the amounts of pressure generated by the ventilatory muscles necessary to produce a breath while partially submerged in the water.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of partial water immersion and body position on the pulmonary mechanics of trained swimmers. We will examine the differences in the amounts of pressure generated by the ventilator muscles necessary to produce a breath while partially submerged in the water.
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: healthy,trained competitive swimmer,competitive swimmer,swim,swimmer,athlete,fitness,exercise

Age: 18 years - 40 years

Gender: Male
Inclusion Criteria
Physically trained with at least 5 years of competitive swimming experience
Exclusion Criteria
Past or present history of neurological disorders, heart or respiratory disease, diabetes, brain injury, spinal cord surgery, seizures strokes, or mental implants
People who either have orthopedic or pain conditions
Smokers or people who have 3 or more alcoholic drinks or use recreational drugs in 24 hours before the laboratory visits
Individuals who are intolerant of the balloon placement, including anatomically structural differences that do not allow the balloon catheter to be inserted smoothly
